HAPPY 21st!!! Welcome to the Club

i feel like … ive lost part of who i was few years back

for this whole semester, my mind’s pre-occupied with

“what am i gonna do after uni”

“need to work more to save money”

“got to do assignments/project”

… i feel… quieter

i realise that this semester, I have managed to complete my assignments beforehand, not having to rush through it in the last few hours.

i wish i have the same motivation to start on my exams. the 20cm high stack of notes just puts me off immediately. =(

SUMMER IS HERE =)

I love wearing shorts and not worrying about the cold.

Life’s been good, and every weekend has been filled with an event.

About a month ago, we went to the Perth Royal Show, kinda like a carnival with games, roller coasters, animal shows, and awesome fireworks.

i love rollercoasters and crazy rides. feel the adrenaline!!!

We celebrated Liang Sheng’s Birthday the next weekend.

Two weekends ago, we had the St Thomas More College Ball

My second and last College Ball.

Everyone was dressed up really nice, got my hair curled for the first time, and loads of nice photos as well.

Dinesh had his 21st birthday partying last weekend, and this weekend was just a quiet mellow transition into summer.

Valete Dinner, the formal dinner to celebrate the graduates who are moving on to another phase in life.

It was a simple yet happy one =) i’ve been smiling alot since.

I feel blessed.

Thanks to Sarah Marie Teo, the support of my faith, sanity, emotions, bath and meal times. Thank you for letting me barge into your room for random stuff. For movie nights, snacks and printing of notes. Thank you for my awesome birthday presents and for being the simplest, most honest, genuine, supportive, understanding, kind heart best friend ever.

Thanks to Leanna for keeping me updated and letting me feel part of her life even though we’re miles apart. We need to Skype + call soon!!

Now it’s the time for the final lap of the academic year 2009. The last sprint to study for exams and do well, so that i can enjoy the holidays in Perth and back in Singapore.

So i was looking for a place to stay after exams while i stay in perth to work for a month before heading back to SG

I came across this great offer

A full furnished kitchen with an electric stove, ice maker, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker

A lavishingly well layed out living room with cable tv, high speed internet, laundry facilities

All these, inclusive of internet, electricity and utility bills was at a great offer os $120 per week (usually it would be at $250 or more per week for such a nice apartment located in the heart of the city)

I got so excited about this and spent the whole morning liasing with them.

The owners said they were honest people that  just moved to the UK for missionary trips, and they just needed someone to MAINTAIN their house. They were not looking for money, but wanted a trustworthy tenant that will look after their furniture.

So i filled up the application form and was given the bank details to transfer the rent of $600 for 5 weeks + bond of $500 to them.

I was so excited about this place. It looks awesome and I even considered moving out next semester to stay in such a nice apartment for such a low price. 1 min walk away from the main city stretch, easily accessible and i could cook and have house parties.

Then I talked to Marie (sis) and being the very mature, logical older sister, she questioned me about various things and… she asked me if this was a scam???

TA DAH!!! here’s the cues we picked out that I had overlooked just cause I liked the way the house looked.

1. Way too cheap a price for such an accommodation with everything inclusive (suspiscious)

2. They ask for me to transfer the funds over immediately despite my rental period to be only in november. Usually renting houses takes a few weeks to process.

3. The money was to be transferred to an overseas account. Wouldn’t they have an aussie account, having stayed here before and intending to come back?

4. They sent me a dodgy email application form (no formal documentation or procedure)

5. They had brought their keys with them to UK, and would send me the keys via DHL after they’ve received the money

6. Because of that, I could not view the apartment before renting. (who intends to rent their apartment out but bring their key along with them to another country??)

7. No unit number was given to me, just the main address of the whole apartment block.

looking at the above cues, it definately is a scam. Marie found this on a website

I was blinded by the good deal and attractive pictures.

NOTE: if ever renting apartments, read through “Renting and Leasing” for the formal procedures and documentations that will protect you.

this is one big lesson i have learnt today!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!! =)

This 7 days building up to my birthday has been AWESOME!!!

Basically, September has been a great month all in all!

First was Melbourne/Sydney trip with cheryl which was just AMAZING!

Finally managed to do skydiving, one of the things i must do before I die.

And then, Friday was Blast from the Past Party where we dressed up as anything (cartoon characters, actors…) from the past.

I went as Pebbles Flintstones, Cheryl went as Wilma Flintstones, and Yvette as a LITTLE GIRL! Super cute outfits we created from $2 worth of clothes from the second hand store. Others went as Wicked Witch of the West, Betty from Flintstones too, and Luke as Spiderman who saved the night.

The next day i woke up for work at Kumon, and got tricked by Luke into believing that we were going for Lunch with his Parents.

Which turned out to be Sarah’s sneaky plan for my birthday BBQ (which i already found out about earlier)

Yummy BBQ, and sarah with the Piniata and evil doctors.

so Luke brought me to the foreshore by the river for the BBQ with everyone else there!!! =)

truly a great surprise and i loved the whole BBQ and chilling with friends by the river once again.

They blind folded me and made me hit the Piniata which fell to the ground

I just kept hitting and hitting and hitting.

Monday, Sarah’s plans didnt work out, so we headed to AQWA (the underwater world in perth)

had fun admiring the jellyfishes, laughing at the sucking lion fish, distinguishing the male and female sharks

we held star fish and felt the really weird squishy rubbery stingray too.

Wednesday, I prayed I wouldnt get thrown into the river.

Thankfully they just left me outside my room to shiver in the cold while they decorated my room with many almost naked men!! (to celebrate being legal for R21)

I got granny underwear too… i hate the fact that im growing old =(

I love everyone for their presents! BOYfriends!!! Family!!! LEANNA (from the US)!!! Aunty B, Aunty Elsie, Uncle Nick, Jannine! all those who were features in the video and all my lovely girls in tommy more!!! Joyner who called me for miles away!

Luke who put up with me, brought me to breakfast and pampered me =)

Sarah my best friend who almost had a heart attack everytime i found out (or almost did) about her plans, and for planning such an awesome week! =) THANK YOU!

it was a memorable, enjoyable and fun filled birthday that has kept me smiling till now! =)

Cheryl was so awesome to come on this trip with me across the country to the eastern states. She gave us (me) all a fright when she forgot to bring her passport to the airport. Thankfully, you can check in to domestic flights with any other photo ID.

We were in Melbourne for 4 days and it was FREEZING COLD!!!! We went to Queen Victoria Market, Brunswick street (vintage/retro/opshop stuff), Lygon street (italian street with lots of restaurants and cafes), Bridge road (factory outlet shopts), the casino, walked around the town and took the trams, got Krispy Kreme and headed off to Sydney!!!

In Sydney, we stayed at a backpackers and met two girls from Sweden, a girl from Belgium and a girl from Adelaide. Most significant part of the trip was SKYDIVING

Finally, a dream come true! Something I’ve always wanted to do! Falling from 14,000 ft for one minute

and gliding with the parachute for the last five minutes. it was SOOO AWESOME!!!!

we made a British friend and brought her to the fresh fish market.

the oysters were SOOO FRESH!!!!

and we had fresh sashimi and unagi, prawns and scallops… yumm

the days in Sydney was spent going around the city and beaches

Sydney’s weather was so good, 28-30 degrees. So sunny and nice

After a week’s holiday, cheryl and I returned back to home sweet home with Krispy Kreme and Lindt chocolates for the Perth people

Yet… my welcome present was a bigger “room”

They moved my bed into the toilet!!!

But it’s good to be back! =)

Ahhh… time to get down to the mountain of work/assignments/presentations/test that i have due this week. pfft!

i like to see the different shades of blue as the river flows
i like to see the blue sky with fluffy white clouds
i like to see the ducks sun bathe
i like to see the old couple walking hand in hand along the boardwalk
i like to see the sail boats race
i like that i see something different from SG
i like the smile from the old man that takes the same bus as me every saturday mornings
i like to listen to interesting bus conversations

Today, i found out that tomorrow is the valentine’s day on the chinese calendar, from a conversation between two aussies. And the single guy said he should learn chinese to pick up some chinese chick. LOL…

I LOVE BUS RIDES! =)
